Parent/Teacher Association Presidents are elected by their members to serve for a year as association presidents. Basically, PTAs/PTOs raise money for special school purchases, fund scholarships, organize cultural events, and increase parent involvement in the school. It's not a PTO, it's a PTA, and it's a member of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Association. There is a lobbying arm in Washington and state representatives, in addition to the local programs that are sponsored by this national association. The association represents approximately 27,000 schools. There is no larger organization affiliated with PTO's because they are school-based programs. Each has the same function and purpose, however.
